Best kept secret in personal multimedia: VLC Media Player for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, Zaurus, PocketPC, BS D-OS, etc.
On windows, it operates independently of the Windows installed codecs and te herefore will often play things that don't play in Windows Media Player. Also, i t will play MPEG2, including DVDs when you don't have a DVD player installed on the system. Very Handy, and free of charge.
